- Do you get easily stressed out and nervous?
- Do you feel down?
- Do you not enjoy activities you used to take pleasure in?
- Are you over the age of 60?
What is it all about?
The Emotional Health Clinic is running a new randomised controlled trial to test the efficacy of two psychological treatment strategies for managing anxiety and depression. The treatments that are running as part of this trial are both group programs which are designed to treat anxiety and depression and help you manage your worry and low mood. Both programs run for 11 sessions over 12 weeks. As this is a randomised trial, if you choose to participate you will be randomly allocated to one of the two group treatment programs. Random allocation is like drawing a name out of a hat so it is luck as to which group program you are offered.
Who is it for?
Adults, 60 years and over who experience problems with worry and low mood.
How much does it cost?
This project is funded by the National Health & Medical Research Council and therefore there is NO cost for participating in this trial.
How do you get involved?
Please call
(02) 9850-8711 and speak to one of our friendly administration assistants.
What will happen then?
Within a week of you calling the Emotional Health Clinic you will be contacted to conduct an intake assessment and collect your personal information. This intake assessment will check that the program is going to be suitable for you. If you are suitable you will then be asked to come to the clinic for an interview with a psychologist and you will be asked to complete some questionnaires. The interview and questionnaires are completely confidential. This assessment is so that we can learn about your worry and mood, and to make sure that our program is going to be helpful to you.
After this interview, if it is determined that you have sufficient worry and low mood to benefit from our program, you will be enrolled in the next group and you will be told of the commencement date.
The groups run for 2 hours a week for 11 sessions over 12 weeks and is led by intern psychologists at the Emotional Health Clinic.
