These one-day events are designed to inspire, encourage and challenge you as a psychologist and support you as a professional.

About the Cool Kids Program training workshops
The CEH provides practical training for professionals wishing to implement the Cool Kids program. Successfully used in clinics, schools, and even remotely for over a decade, and based on years of scientific research and practice, this program is internationally recognised and practiced around the world.
The process of implementing the program is made easy and simple. Supporting materials, workshops and manuals are user-friendly, and make planning and organising therapy sessions easier. Clear feedback is provided on client and student outcomes. The structure of the program is flexible and accessible for the individuals’ needs, while also supporting their families.
Attending the training offers professional networking opportunities for learning from one another about how the course and materials may be applied in different ways. As a practitioner, you have the opportunity to role play and increase your confidence in the delivery of services to client children and their families.

About the Workshop: This workshop focuses on assessment and treatment of anxiety in children and adolescents. The workshop covers general information on anxiety disorders including diagnostic criteria, assessment techniques and current research findings on factors that maintain anxiety and how this links with treatment approaches. The workshop provides specific training on the ‘Cool Kids’ anxiety program. This program has a cognitive behavioural orientation, is designed to train children, adolescents and their families in anxiety management skills and can be used in both community and school settings. Bullying in schools: approaches to intervention

About the Workshop: Current approaches to the problem of bullying in schools will be outlined, with a specific focus on an individual-level approach in which children who are targets of bullying are helped to develop strategies to minimise the risk and impact of being bullied. In particular, practical strategies from the Confident Kids programme will be covered, and supplemented by case studies as examples of how the strategies can be implemented. In addition, working with parents of children who are being bullied, and the growing problem of cyber-bullying will be discussed. Assessment and Treatment of Anxiety in Children with Autistic Spectrum Disorders

About the Workshop: This workshop focuses on assessment and treatment of anxiety in children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). The workshop covers current research findings on the nature of anxiety in ASD children, assessment processes suitable for differentiating between anxiety and ASD symptoms and the workshop provides specific training on the ASD adaptation of the ‘Cool Kids’ treatment program. This program has a cognitive behavioural orientation, is designed to train children and their families in anxiety management skills and is suited to children with high functioning ASD. Adaptations of the techniques for lower functioning ASD presentations will also be discussed. CPD hours can be claimed at your own discretion and a certificate of attendance will be provided.

Process Orientated CBT Treatment Strategies for Child and Adolescent Conduct Problems and Anxiety

About the Workshop: This workshop focuses on the treatment of conduct problems (e.g., Defiance, Conduct Disorder, Aggression), including when it co-occurs with anxiety, in children and adolescents. This workshop will focus specifically on the implementation of practical strategies when working with these children and their families. Through the use of detailed case studies (drawn from the presenters and attendees clinical experience) specific training will be provided in the following areas (a) formulating for best fit treatment planning, (b) utilising therapeutic process and identifying common process failures when working with complex presentations, (c) implementation of parent management strategies (including working with schools), and (d) implementation of child self-management strategies for children aged 8 to 18 years. This workshop has a cognitive behavioural orientation, but also draws on Family Therapy and Attachment Theory to inform an integrated and process orientated approach to treating conduct problems and anxiety in youths. These skills can be used in private, community and school settings. CPD hours can be claimed at your own discretion and a certificate of attendance will be provided.

Cool Kids with Complex Cases: An Advanced Workshop

About the Workshop: In this workshop we will discuss child and adolescent anxiety cases who respond slowly, less than optimally, or possibly not at all within the context of the Cool Kids Program. Using insights from research findings and clinical acumen the workshop will investigate factors that might interfere with treatment and ways of maximizing response. Treatment adaptations, flexibility and common pitfalls will be highlighted. The majority of the workshop will allow interaction and discussion between participants in response to specific case examples. Participants are encouraged to bring case examples and these will be used as a focus of discussion. CPD hours can be claimed at your own discretion and a certificate of attendance will be provided.
